CIVIL WEDDING CEREMONIES at Usk Castle

February 21st, 2011

Fairy tale weddings at Usk Castle.

From June 2011 five venues in the castle will be licensed for civil wedding ceremonies.  This is a wonderful way to wed and have the reception, just as you would like to plan it, all in one place.

Within the castle ruins:

The North Tower, once called the treasure tower, accomodates 20 guests, with room outside on the castle green for many .

The  Drum Tower Gazebo  accomodates 8 people within, but there is room outside for everybody!

These next three venues are separate from the ruins of Usk Castle, in the grounds of The Castle House. This is a private house with enchanting gardens, and can easily be linked to the castle for receptions.

The Gatehouse, for 30 guests or more, complete with Portcullis slot, was built in 1320’s.  With the arched roof and stone steps it is a real medieval  setting, and looks out onto the gravel drive with ample room for more guests.

The Tithe Barn, for 80 guests.  Still decorated with the old artefacts from its agriculutural days, but with lighting and carpets, the barn makes a lovely setting for a wedding.

The Oak Dining Room, for 30 guests.  Panelled in oak rescued from a Jacobean house in Shrewsbury, the Oak Room has an enchanting historic  atmosphere, with a wood burner and antique furniture.

New Pavilion in Usk Castle

August 26th, 2008

Nick Ramsay A.M. opened the new Gazebo in October 2008

There is ample parking, and disabled access for those not wishing to walk far. Please ring 07913 622 783 for details of access.

No need to fear the weather on your visit to Usk Castle now !  With grateful thanks to Usk Castle Friends and Usk Gardens Open Days,  by whom the funds were raised, an ex-display model Gazebo from Monmouthshire Timber in Newport (at a generously discounted price) was purchased.  It is a wonderful 12 seater pavilion, with a ramp giving easy access for all.  Henry constructed the sturdy decking base  and ramp on the site of the Drum Tower near the main gate.  It was then a challenge for 6 students from Bristol University ( graduates in medicine, languages, and maths, and only one in engineering) to re-constuct the pavilion, a task they completed in 4 hours.

It will also be licensed for Civil Wedding Ceremonies from June 2011.
